172. The Lord protects the simple hearted

“The Lord protects the simple hearted;
when I was in great need, He saved me” Ps 116:6

When I was very young I asked my father when it is written in the Bible that the Lord protects the simple hearted: does this mean that He would protect the Sages or those who wear saffron robes? Then my father narrated to me the meaning of the simple hearted; those who have the mind of a child, without vengeance, jealousy, hatred and are undefiled and pure in heart. They will be holy and pure and without sin. They fear the Lord and abide by His laws and Covenants. They will not boast about anything. They do not have pride. They will be gentle and meek and such are the simple hearted. God will protect them at all times; he told me.

Lord Jesus has the same gentle, meek and simple character. We as His children must cultivate the same meek, gentle and simple behaviour. God will protect them who have these characteristics. He will cover them with His wings. If there is pride in you, you must discard it. The boastful and the arrogant can not stand in His presence. We who are meditating on this title should transform our hearts. Some people lie very easily.

“The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.” Ps 5: 5-6 (KJV)

For this reason Lord Jesus tells His disciples to transform and become like children. Unless you discard the arrogance, wickedness, bad behaviour and defilement that is in you and be like children, you can not enter the kingdom of heaven He tells His disciples. You will notice in Psalms 131 the great king David humbles himself and with a gentle heart prays as follows:

“A Song of degrees of David. LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.
Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.
Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and forever.”  Ps 131:1-3
  (KJV)

The great king David was blessed with many talents. He was accomplished in music, but even then he is not boasting about his greatness. He says; that I am like a child in God’s presence. Just as the weaned child is calm and contented in its mother’s lap, I am so secure in God’s lap he says. Just like the infant which trusts its mother, I trust my God, I do not involve in great matters and things that are difficult for me he says. For this reason King David was the most beloved of God.

He is the one, who protects the simple hearted. The one who reigns high above the heavens is always focused towards the meek and the simple hearted. Many times the circumstances we face go haywire. Many times when we feel low and down cast, when circumstances in the house are not favourable, and when we as in a storm are buffeted by adverse problems, and are troubled, when all those whom we trusted have deserted us, in such low estate and humble condition He is the one who remembers us. He will never despise or neglect a contrite heart. The exalted and lofty one, one that inhabiteth eternity and whose name is Holy dwells among the contrite to revive them.

“Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth forever” Ps 136:23 (KJV)

The one who is exalted high above the heavens, and dwellest in the heavens, the one who is meek and gentle protects you.  This is the great secret. If you have pride in your heart and are even ten Km away from God’s sanctuary; yet God will say here comes the haughty! God knows the haughty from far off. For this reason in God’s presence traits like, pride, jealousy, vengeance, anger, haughtiness, and arrogance have no place. In His presence one has to be pure and holy.

I lift my holy hands and train those that work with me to love those that hate them dearly. One brother commented that if you keep quiet when one strikes you on your cheek they will strike you on the other as well. Then I told that brother saying that; we live amidst the hard hearted and wicked people, but we have to be pure like the chosen and the separated. Just like the lotus which sprouts from the mud emanating its scent without being defiled, in the same manner when you are like the lotus, the Lord who protects the simple hearted will abide with you like the dew on the trees and protects you.

If we are to take pride in ourselves, it is only because of the name of the God who shows His grace on this earth. We while meditating on His characteristics and greatness must pride ourselves in Him and God will protect only such of those.

We must pray saying that O, Lord you protect the simple hearted hence create in me such meek and gentle behaviour. Do not fear even if there be wicked and hard hearted persons in your household because, you are following the Lord. He is innocent, undefiled, and separated from sinners. He is exalted above the heavens, and has a gentle heart and is meek. He is the one who protects the simple hearted. Hence you must don His character and refrain from retaliating hit for hit or abuse for abuse but pray, Lord, Father, look! I am not retaliating but instead am handing over my argument to you and it is for you to avenge, you are the one who protects the meek and I who am meek please protect me.
